Kurtis Kristianson

Kurtis Kristianson (Spindrift Photography) is an award winning commercial lifestyle photographer based in Southern Alberta. Proficient in commercial content creation and hard-to-get perspectives, Kurtis specializes in photographing people, their personalities and the things they are most passionate about.

Kurtis believes it is important to connect with his clients and subjects and discuss ideas for a project in order to execute a shared vision. Over the last 12 years, he has had the pleasure of shooting diverse subjects, from professional sports to large-scale construction and the oil and gas industry. As such, he is comfortable working in extreme environments and solving technical issues on location.

Various photography and writing assignments for such publications as Canadian Biker, Motorcycle Classics, AirdrieLIFE, IMPACT and Lamborghini have given Kurtis the opportunity to work with interesting and passionate individuals from across North America. WestJet co-founder, Don Bell; Jim Nevada of Roper Apparel & Footwear; Canadian Punk icon, Art Bergmann; and adventure travellers, Dag Goering and Maria Coffey, are just some of the public figures Kurtis has worked with in recent years.

As many smaller companies are looking for photographers who can do more than just take pictures, Kurtis believes that creative evolution and versatility are increasingly important. To that end, he is currently studying cinematics and video production, and has produced a number of marketing and documentary pieces. Other recent work includes architectural photography, home-building and community campaigns, magazine editorials and written assignments, as well as adventure lifestyle projects and stock photography for Sports Studios LA (Getty).

While large-scale commercial projects and clients are a good part of his work, Kurtis loves being outdoors. When not on assignment, he spends time exploring the backcountry, white-water kayaking, kite-skiing and cold-water diving in Alberta’s lakes. Kurtis also likes to see others succeed in life and business, and works one-on-one with people who want to develop their sense of purpose and goals.

He lives with his wife and twins in the small prairie town of Crossfield, Alberta.

“I have the best job in the world: photographing and telling the stories of people who believe they have the best jobs and lifestyles in the world.”
